The former NHS Holly Lane Clinic at Smethwick, Birmingham, has been converted into a brand-new Resource Centre for Sense – a charity for people with complex disabilities.

Building and Electrical Contractors, Hollmark Ltd, appointed us to undertake the Building Control service to ensure that the work being undertaken met the requirements of the Building Regulations. The client required a rapid turn around on this project, with plans checked and the first visit being undertaken within two weeks of the initial enquiry.

The works to the centre included demolition of the internal partitioning ready for the installation of new partitions and widened door frames and doors. New hygiene suites have been fitted with hoist provisions, multiple assisted toilet facilities and a platform lift, to cater for individual needs. Electrics have been installed throughout the building, with new lighting and a fire alarm system, amongst other associated works.

Sense provide support to people living with complex disabilities and sensory impairment through their Housing and Individual Support Centres, such as Education and Day services such as Arts, Sport and Wellbeing, in addition to Holidays, Short Breaks and a wide range of Activity Groups. This centre will have a brand-new sensory suite to develop communication and living skills, whilst also connecting with other people.

“We are pleased to have provided our expertise to the development team on this project to guide them to achieving compliance for such a great cause.”

Director, Andrew Bullen
