Project Description:
The Loom, housed in a listed building, is made up of 110,000 sq. ft of modern and unique creative space for entrepreneurs, innovators and creative minds, based in Whitechaple within a former Victorian wool warehouse.
A new entrance was made accessible from Gowers Walk – complementing the large existing façade entrance – which leads into a new office reception and public access to a café. The entrance enjoys a generous opening in the existing façade and is lit by an atrium space in the centre of the building; providing space and light to the circulation on the upper floors.
Careful decisions were considered and made on what elements to remove, what features to keep, and how to successfully incorporate new additions. The metal screen of the new entrance refers to an historic loom, connecting the new intervention with the original use of the building. The new mural in the entrance provides a playfully surreal take on the building’s history.
Helical Plc appointed us as Approved Inspector, providing Building Regulation compliance and guidance on the main scheme.
